F1 for Dummies - Part 1: Teams and Drivers
There has been a lot of new fan influx in the fandom recently, and I have found a certain level of looking down one's nose at these new fans by the older members of the community for not knowing expert level knowledge. This made me sad, so I am creating a series of basic info about the sport I love and want all of you to love as well.
This is the first in the series. Welcome!
So the sport is nothing without its drivers and teams. There are (currently) 10 teams in Formula One and each team has 2 drivers - so the Formula One grid is made up of 20 drivers who drive in every race on the calendar. Each driver have a unique driver number, just like in most other sport. This number is displayed on their respective cars - on the nose as well as on the side of the car.
In addition to the drivers, each team also has a large workforce, including mechanics and engineers as well as a management team, all led by the Team Principals.
The next important thing is the car that they drive. I continue with this in Part - 2 of this series, explaining the race weekend and the cars. Strap in, we are on a long and interesting journey!
