Imola GP - fantasy team!

Alright I’ve got about 45 minutes before quali starts to do this so I have to tear my eyes away from the FRECA quali (which is gripping action, and also showing rain just starting up in Imola right now eek!), GT2 in Monza and Endurance series in Nurburgring and do this.

So this is mostly just me thinking out loud trying to set my fantasy team for the week. Let’s see now:

Team

I always start with setting my team, and last year I would blindly set it to Mercedes because duh why wouldn’t you? This year though I have to think at least a little bit about this. Mercedes are definitely not dominating this year. It’s going to be a Max Verstappen show, and it is up to the Mercedes boys to hope something goes wrong for him to get their staple 1-2. Still, I might leave Mercedes as my team anyway for now. It’s only a matter of time though before Checo gets closer to the top and then it will be game on.

Turbo player

So you cannot have Lewis, Max or Bottas as turbo players (shakes fist at F1 fantasy) so this weekend has to, surely, go to Pierre, right? He has been sublime in practice - P5, P3 and P5 (on mediums when everyone around were on softs) and it is his team's home GP so he has had so many extra laps under his belt here, so I think it is only logical he has to be my turbo driver this weekend.

Other 4 players

Well I have to have Max in the team - yes, even with his atrocious luck in Italy so far in his career. I just have to. I don’t want to regret not doing it. I’m also going to have to choose between Lando and Charles as my third best. They both look good, but I think I have more guarantee with Charles for now. Oof that’s a risk. Oh well.

That leaves the tailenders. This one is a bit of a heart over head decision but - Latifi. He’s been really good in practice right up till the crash, but I want to put my money on the Canadian this weekend. He came oh so close to points last year here. He’ll be alright. That leaves me with no budget to choose my last driver. Oh dear. Let’s see now. I think it is bye bye Charles then. That’s a shame but what can you do.

So Leclerc is gone, I gotta get someone way cheaper. If I get Estaban, I can get George as well. How about that? Estaban hasn’t done amazing in practice but George did finish in the top ten yesterday. That should be alright, methinks?

Yes it is at this point that I go - fuck it, this or nothing! Ha.

Final Thoughts

But really, looking forward to the weekend. Imola is not an overtaking circuit so it is very much going to be a game of the strategies - something I absolutely love, unlike a lot of the fanbase. Crossing all my fingers and toes for my team! I mean, my fantasy team sure but also MY team. Get in there guys, let’s go!
