Portugal GP - Midweek thoughts

Note: None of these pictures are mine. Please let me know if you want them removed.

Do these two weeks seem too long for anybody else? I just want racing back! But until then, we have to live off of the breadcrumbs that we are fed. Here are some of them that have kept me going the last week and a half.

Firstly, the cutest picture on the internet right now is Lewis's Instagram profile picture, but this one comes pretty close second:

How cute is this?! I just love all the baby driver pictures on the internet, my favourite just has to be Lewis. My heart breaks a little every time I see him and remember all of the struggles he had to go through at that age.

It helps that social media remembers everything, and a google search of baby driver pictures helps feed my soul when I end up needing a little extra serotonin to keep going.

Last weekend was an overwhelming amount of Formula E action, and I feel like it just made me miss F1 more instead of quenching the thirst. It was honestly very rewarding. The race was at an actual track for a change, instead of on a makeshift street track in the middle of a claustrophobic big city. Secondly, the Saturday race was just pure chaos!

Rain played havoc on the cars and this saw quite a few spinning cars, almost as many as the Imola GP the previous weekend, and then with one lap to go, most of the grid just... ran out of energy! I think I would have been more upset if Mercedes didn't get two podiums at the end of it, although I was rooting for Da Costa as well.

And as these things go, Sunday's race was the absolute opposite of this. It was a beautiful sunny day in Valencia. The only incident pretty much was Stoffel hitting one of the few close barriers while trying to pass and neither of the Mercedes finished within the points BUT Mahindra got a podium again! Back to back weekends for the team! Some good entertainment in the off week, I would say.

Monday brought with it the news of the new quali format that the FIA wanted to test out this year. My only problem with this whole situation is people violently disagreeing without even seeing how it goes in the try-outs. People rejecting the idea of change has actually described my life this week, to be honest, and I am a little frustrated with people summarily dismissing ideas for no good reason than "we like it our way, go away with your new ideas".

That's not the only rant I have today, because this happened:

…why? Just. No. I would have understood if it was the Drive to Survive episode on this incident, but the actual GP? Britain! A man's life was in danger for 17 seconds, and that is the piece of television - not the remaining entire season of motorsport - that you found most watchable? Disgusting.

I needed some good news after seeing this, and thankfully it was delivered:

Callum is in the F1 mix! Sure it is as additional reserve driver for Alfa Romeo, but he's going to be in Portugal so - yay! The boy deserves all the F1 love he can get. Now, was I hallucinating, or was he announced as Ferrari test driver at the end of last year as well? I don't think I've seen him around the paddock this year yet, in any case. Kudos to Alfa for bringing us the Kubica content, and now the Ilott content, that we all deserve!

And finally, I have loved all forms of this meme this last couple weeks, but this was my favourite:

It made me laugh so much! Alexa, play Super Max.

Tomorrow is Press Conference day. No real spicy pairings this time though. Maybe Toto and Horner will dish out some content. A fan can hope! It is at times like this that I most miss Cyril.
Well, I think that covers it all really. Will be back this weekend with the usual Race post! Thank you for reading.
